Roblox has officially announced the return of the Headless Horseman for Halloween 2024, but players are being warned to watch out for fake versions of the character on the marketplace. Since Roblox allows user-created content, some creators upload knockoff versions that can deceive players into purchasing unofficial items. Originally created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, Roblox launched in 2006 as a free-to-play platform that allows users to create games using the Lua programming language. Interestingly, this isn't the first time the character has encountered issues—due to a bug in 2023, some players were able to obtain the Headless Horseman for free. Nevertheless, the character’s return in 2024 has been met with excitement, especially for its fiery animations.

The Headless Horseman originates from European folklore and gained widespread popularity thanks to Washington Irving’s 1820 short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The character has since made numerous appearances in popular culture, featuring in games like Assassin’s Creed, World of Warcraft, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
