The founder and CEO of the studio, Swen Vincke, provided an update regarding the delayed release of Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

"Latest news on Xbox - active playtesting is ongoing, and we are still on track for this year," he wrote. "We will announce a specific release date when we are confident everything is ready."

Baldur's Gate 3 was released for PC in August and on PS5 the following month. However, the Xbox release of the game was delayed as Larian faced challenges in ensuring the same quality split-screen co-op experience on both Series X and S.

After a meeting with the head of Microsoft's gaming division in August, Vincke announced that the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 would be arriving later this year, with split-screen co-op being removed as a feature for Series S.

Larian had previously stated on multiple occasions that Microsoft required full feature parity between the Series X and Series S versions of the game.

However, Xbox boss Spencer later suggested that full feature parity wasn't a mandatory requirement and that he couldn't envision a scenario where Series S would miss out on certain games.

Spencer told Eurogamer, "We are taking feedback from developers, including Larian, and I met with them today to discuss this. I'm confident that we will find a good solution and learn from this experience. I don't see a situation where Series S is excluded.

Regarding full feature parity, I don't think you've heard from us or Larian that this was a mandatory condition. It's more related to community sentiment. There are features available on X today that are not present on S, even in our own games, such as ray tracing that works on X but is not on S in certain games."
